Sublette Centennial celebration to feature weekend full of activities

Sublette will observe its 100th anniversary of incorporation this year, and a weekend of celebratory Centennial events is being planned for June 2, 3, and 4, 2023. Featuring the theme, “Sublette, Kansas – 100 Years of Growing in the Heartland,” the Centennial celebration will include many special events involving different aspects of the community from the beginning to the present.

Although more details will be announced over the next few months, a basic schedule has been lined out that includes a Summer Fest celebration on Friday evening, June 2; a full day of activities on Saturday, June 3; and a wrap-up event on Sunday, June 4.

The Summer Fest plans include a vendors’ market, a barbecue cook-off, an ice cream contest, extended hours for downtown businesses, food-booth fundraisers and possible food trucks, wagon rides, a barrel train, a beer garden, and a street dance.

Saturday’s full line-up will include a Centennial 5K run and walk, a parade, lunch in the park sponsored by the Sublette Coop, a social hour and Centennial Black & White Ball at the high school, and a Cruising Main event to culminate the night’s festivities. The afternoon will have a multitude of activities for families to choose from, including a car show, kids’ games, a 100 Years of Farming demonstration, events at the Haskell County Historical Museum, Sublette High School alumni class receptions at various locations, and a potential tournament such as mud volleyball. It promises to be a day packed full of something for everyone!

The Centennial weekend will wrap up on Sunday with a community worship service and continental breakfast, and a fellowship lunch open to everyone.

There is still time to join one of several planning committees to fine-tune details and provide input on the celebration. Volunteer by contacting Jarrod Weeks at (620) 675-8215, or email jarrod@weeksfamilyservices.com.
